Toward the end of the 18th century, the otherwise tranquil city of Klagenfurt experienced, for almost ten years, the splendor of an imperial residence: that of Archduchess Maria Anna, daughter of the great Empress Maria Theresa and her husband, Emperor Franz I Stephan.
The Archduchess bequeathed her entire personal estate to the Sisters of St. Elizabeth, along with various legacies. An exceptionally significant and extensive part of this inheritance is still guarded today as a treasure within the Convent of the Elisabethines.

Dresses, jewelry, paintings, needlework, and personal belongings offer a unique glimpse into the Archduchess's life.
The surviving objects are of the highest interest and of far-reaching, supra-regional significance.
The tour lasts approximately 120 minutes and includes: the convent church, the crypt, the Queen Maria Carolina Pharmacy, the Kunsthaus, and the treasure depot (Schaudepot).
The treasure depot also houses the so-called Cloak of St. Elizabeth – a precious liturgical garment, unique in craftsmanship and symbolism, and thus one of the collection's most outstanding pieces.
